Timbers allow stoppage time goal, draw LAFC 1-1

The Portland Timbers thought they were finally going to get a good result against Los Angeles FC, a team that they have struggled against, but they couldn’t hold onto a lady and allowed a stoppage-time goal and ended up with a 1-1 draw with LAFC

After allowing LAFC the first two shots of the match, the Timbers ran off 10 straight shots leading up to halftime, but could not find the net and the half ended with a scoreless draw.

But early in the second half, the Timbers finally broke through when Jeremy Ebobisse got a good look to the LAFC keeper’s left, and his blast was partially deflected by LA goalkeerp Pablo Sisniega but had enough pace that he couldn’t stop it, and it found the back of the net and put the Timbers up by a 1-0 score.

In the 73rd minute, LAFC would have a golden opportunity to equalize when after Mohamed El-Munir’s shot was saved by Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark, Mahala Opoku had a brief look at an open net from only a few yards out, but scuffed his shot wide.

Both teams had chances to score before stoppage time but neither team could tally. But then two minutes into stoppage time, the Timbers allowed sixteen year old Christian Torres to turn on the ball at the top of the Timbers box and had an open look, and he would take advantage of the opportunity by burying a low show into the right side of the next past Clark to level the score at 1-1, which would be the final as the whistle blew just a few minutes later.

Steve Clark had four saves for the Timbers, while Pablo Sisniega recorded five for LAFC.
