For the Portland Timbers, in their inaugural Major League Soccer season, there is no place like home as after five league matches at the renovated JELD-WEN Field, the Timbers are still perfect with five wins, and three straight shutouts, all by a 1-0 score. The latest victim would be the Columbus Crew when after a lackluster first half for both teams, the Timbers would break out early in the second half on a headed goal by former Crew defender Eric Brunner. The Timbers kept a clean sheet with the help of a spectacular reaction save by Troy Perkins late in the first half, and a kind post keeping out a Crew shot late in the second half, as the Timbers move to a tie for second place in the Western Conference.
