The Portland Timbers went into their Wednesday night match really needing the full three points to solidify their playoff standing, and had a great chance to greatly improve their chances with New York losing and DC United drawing earlier in the day. But the Timbers could not make a first half goal from Kenny Cooper hold up and have to settle for a 1-1 draw with San Jose. With the draw, the Timbers move into the last playoff position, one point clear of New York Red Bulls, who the Timbers play this weekend on the road.
