Opening night at JELD-WEN Field!

The Portland Timbers start their second Major League Soccer season tonight at JELD-WEN Field as they host the Philadelphia Union at 6:30.  The match will be telecast nationally on ESPN2.

The Timbers did not give up a goal to Philadelphia last year, winning 1-0 here on a goal by Mamadou Danso, and drawing 0-0 on the road.  The Timbers will have a new look up front this year, as Scottish Premier League all-time leading scorer Kris Boyd takes the spot of the departed Kenny Cooper, who scored yesterday for the New York Red Bulls.  Other new names that could possibly see action tonight are Andrew Jean-Baptiste (Defender), Hayner Mosquera (Defender), and Franck Songo’o (Midfielder).

It looks like it will be another rainy opener, as the first home match was last year when the Timbers topped Chicago 2-0.  Attendance has been expanded slightly to 20,323, which was experimented with twice late last year.  The season is reported to be a sellout other than some obstructed view seats.

See you all at the stadium!
