For the third time in three games this season, the Timbers went down a goal, this time in the very first minute in New England on a header by Saer Sène. But unlike the home opener when the Timbers rallied for a 3-1 win over Philadelphia, and last week when the Timbers rallied for a 1-1 draw in Dallas, the Timbers never found the net and fell 1-0 for their first loss of the season. It also broke a four match unbeaten road streak going back to last season.
The Timbers also suffered some critical injuries, with Hanyer Mosquera suffering a likely broken nose in the first half, and though Franck Songo’o looked good in his first Timbers appearance, he also suffered a late knock to the ankle.
The Timbers return home to face Real Salt Lake next weekend.
