The Portland Timbers and Los Angeles Galaxy were both looking to turn around slow starts to the 2012 season, though the Galaxy were probably in a more desperate situation riding a seven game winless streak.
The Galaxy would get just what they neded in the 61st minute on a David Beckham corner kick which Dunivant would head in off the right post, though it appeared that Galaxy forward Landon Donovan had interfered with Timbers goalkeeper Troy Perkins on the play. Perkins would receive a yellow for arguing the call and the goal would stand, and would be the only goal in the 1-0 Galaxy win.
