U-23s secure playoff spot with 1-0 win over Crossfire

The Washington Crossfire keeper reacts to the Timbers game winning goal

The Timbers U-23s defeated the Washington Crossfire 1-0 on Friday night at Doc Harris Stadium in Camas, Washington on a goal by Mark Sherrod, and the win in front of a crowd of 2,056 on a sunny Friday evening was enough to secure a playoff berth for the 2012 season.

The Timbers would dominate play for much of the evening, but would not break through until the 69th minute when Nicholas Hamer played a low cross that Sherrod headed in for the lone goal of the match.

The U-23s conclude their 2012 regular season home schedule Sunday at Hare Field in Hillsboro against the Kitsap Pumas at 6:00 before finishing the regular season at the Washington Crossfire on Wednesday.
