Timbers can’t hold 2-0 lead, but after-whistle goal stings in 3-2 loss to Red Bulls

The Portland Timbers got off to the best start on the road in their MLS history, going out to a 2-0 lead by the 32nd minute on goals by Bright Dike and Darlington Nagbe, but the talking point of the match would be a very controversial 45th minute New York goal by Tim Cahill that went in the net after the whistle had stopped play, yet in a call that seems to be almost inexplicable, center referee Jasen Anno would allow the game tying goal.

So the early 2-0 lead would disappear by halftime on that controversial equalizer, and Heath Pearce would get the game winner for New York in the 83rd minute for the 3-2 Red Bulls win.
