Portland Thorns women’s team set to debut in 2013

2013 brings the debut of something that many Portland soccer fans feel is long overdue: a top women’s league team comes to Portland as the Portland Thorns FC will be one of the founding members of the National Women’s Soccer League when they begin play this spring.

The Thorns already appear to have a strong roster for their debut season, with US National Team stars Alex Morgan, Rachel Buehler, and Tobin Heath being allocated to the Thorns, as well as Canadian team legend Christine Sinclair forming a strong core to the team.  Also on the roster as of February 1 are goalkeepers Karina LeBlanc and Roxanne Barker, defenders Marlene Sandoval, Luz Saucedo, and Kathryn Williamson.  Midfiders Amber Brooks and Nicolette Radovcic have also been announced as members of the Thorns debut roster.

This site will have match report coverage and photography throughout the 2013 season as Portland finally has a top-flight women’s professional team to support.
