Portland has been Soccer City, USA since the 1970s. And while various other groups have tried to claim that title, and an Oregonian story from 2011 made up it’s own criteria why San Jose had claim to that title, there’s really never been much question about it. And after the Timbers won the MLS Cup this past Sunday, this has only been solidified.
Why?
How about three different soccer teams with titles in five years?
2015:
Portland Timbers win the MLS Cup Final in their first appearance, 2-1 over the Columbus Crew SC.
