For the second straight season, the Portland Timbers open their home season against Minnesota United, this year coming off a five game road trip to start the season. After two straight losses the Timbers earned a point in Dallas and then in Chicago, before letting a late 2-0 lead slip away in a disappointing 3-2 loss in Orlando last weekend.
Minnesota appears to be a much improved club over the expansion team that the Timbers beat 5-1 to open the 2017 season, but the main story tonight might be whether Timbers stars Liam Ridgewell and Fanendo Adi get playing time.
