Timbers open 2019 season in Denver on Saturday

The Portland Timbers open their 2019 Major League Soccer campaign on the road in Denver on Saturday at 3:00 Pacific Time against the Colorado Rapids. It will be only the third time in nine MLS seasons that the Timbers have opened the season with a road game. The other seasons were 2011 and last season.

This seasons’s road opener has a touch of familiarity to it as the first Timbers MLS season also began in Colorado in 2011. No Timbers players remain on the roster of the team that lost to the Rapids 3-1 that day, with Kenny Cooper getting the lone Timbers goal, their first in MLS.

The Timbers made it all the way to MLS Cup last year, losing 2-0 in the final in Atlanta.  Predictions for the 2019 season from MLSSoccer.com have been all over the map, ranging from winning MLS Cup 2019 to finishing 9th in the Western Conference and missing the playoffs.

SoccerCityUSA.com covered 13 matches last year and hopes to cover nearly all the home matches again this year, and maybe a road match or two!

Enjoy the 2019 season!
