In what seemed in many ways a carbon-copy of their 1-1 draw with LAFC last weekend, the Timbers had a 1-0 lead deep into stoppage time, but allowed a very late equalizer and emerge with a 1-1 result, this time on the road against their traditional rivals, the Seattle Sounders.
The Timbers would take the lead on their very first scoring chance, in the 10th minute. After a Yimmi Chara shot was saved by Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei, Timbers midfielder Andrés Flores had a chance to set up a good shot as he was unmarked, and he blasted the shot into the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Timbers let Seattle control most of the possession, similar to the last meeting between the two teams. Seattle had some better looks in the second half, but no good saves were necessary by goalkeeper Steve Clark to maintain the Timbers lead.
Then, deep into stoppage time, the Timbers defense once again would allow an open chance that they would pay for, when off a Sounders corner kick, the ball was deflected to a wide-open Will Bruin, who had an easy finish for the equalizer that made the score 1-1, which would be the final on the night.
