The Timbers opened their 2021 Major League Soccer season on Sunday night in Sandy, Utah, where the Vancouver Whitecaps are playing at least part of their 2021 home schedule. The Timbers had several good chances, especially in the first half, but could never find the net, and a 49th minute open header goal by Lucas Cavallini would be the difference in this match in a 1-0 Vancouver Whitecaps victory.
The Timbers have now opened four seasons in their MLS era on the road (2011, 2018, 2019, 2021) and have yet to record a win in those matches.
