The Timbers are playing tonight at Providence Park in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal against Mexico’s Club América, a much more difficult foe than C.D. Marathón, whom the Timbers defeated 7-2 on aggregate in the previous round.
Club América has won the Champions League tournament seven times, which is the most of any team, with their most recent wins being back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016. They defeated C.D. Olimpia of Honduras in the previous round, advancing on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate total.
The second leg of this round will be next Wednesday, May 5 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
