The Portland Timbers had their first game before a full-capacity crowd at Providence Park since March, 2020, and the home team would send the fans home happy as Jeremy Ebbobise scored a late goal to break the goalless match and secure a 1-0 win over FC Dallas.
The first half would be mostly uneventful until just minutes before halftime when FC Dallas would have two good chances, the first hitting off the right post, and the second a close-in shot by Paxton Pomykal that was saved by Steve Clark. The Timbers would respond with a good chance of their own just before half when Dairon Asprilla‘s low shot from outside the box forced a save from Jimmy Maurer. But the match would remain scoreless at the half.
Early in the second half, Yimmi Chara had a good chance for the Timbers, but his shot would slip just wide left. In the 71st minute, Dallas would have a good chance of their own when Franco Jara‘s header off a corner kick forced a good save from Clark.
In the 83rd minute, Yimmi Chara had another great chance with a tight-angle shot from close in that would slip just wide of the post.
But about a minute later the Timbers would finally make a good chance pay off when Jeremy Ebbobise made a run into the Dallas box off a Yimmi Chara pass, and his shot was into the upper left corner of the goal past Maurer, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead.
The Timbers would hold onto the lead through a long second half stoppage to earn in the 1-0 win.
Steve Clark would record two saves for the Timbers while Jimmy Maurer would have a single save for Dallas.
