It will be New York City FC that the Portland Timbers will face next Saturday in MLS Cup 2021 as a result of their 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Sunday. Philadelphia took a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute on an own goal, but New York tied it up 90 seconds later. Then an 88th minute goal by New York was the difference.
The last meeting between the teams was at the MLS Is Back Tournament last year, where the Timbers won 3-1 in the Quarterfinals. The last meeting in Portland was April 22, 2018, when the Timbers won 3-0.
MLS Cup 2021 will take place at Providence Park at noon on Saturday, December 11.
