MLS Cup final is today!

The 2021 Major League Soccer Championship, the MLS Cup tournament final, is today at Providence Park at noon.  This is the third MLS Cup final the Timbers have played in during their eleven years in MLS, after winning 2-1 in Columbus in 2015, then losing 2-0 in Atlanta in 2018.  But for the first time in their MLS history, and also in the history of the team going back to the NASL, APSL/WSL, and USL eras, the Championship game will be at home.

Weather for today is expected to be rainy and windy, though the forecasts have backed off a bit from the original predictions of extremely high winds.  As of now (Saturday at 7:15am), they are predicting 47 degrees at kickoff with and 85% chance of rain and 12mph winds.

In MLS Cup history, home teams have a 10-3 record in winning the title match.  One of those road wins was the Timbers winning in Columbus in 2015.  The others were the LA Galaxy winning in Foxboro, Massachusetts in 2002 and Seattle winning in Toronto in 2016.
