Major League Soccer announced their 2022 schedule on Wednesday. The Timbers will be opening the season against the New England Revolution on Saturday, February 26.
The Timbers will face all their Western Conference opponents in a home and away match. Nashville SC has been returned to the Western Conference for this season, though they may return the East when St. Louis joins in 2023. The Timbers faced Nashville in their only Western Conference interconference game in 2020. The Timbers won 1-0. Nashville was placed into the Eastern Conference after the league suspended play, and remained there in 2021.
The schedule features eight games against Eastern Conference opponents this year. Atlanta United FC, New England Revolution, Orlando City SC, and the Philadelphia Union will face the Timbers at Providence Park, while the Timbers will travel to face Columbus Crew SC, Inter Miami CF, New York Red Bulls, and Toronto FC. The visit to Miami will be the first for the MLS Timbers.
Atlanta United (MLS Cup 2018 opponent), Columbus Crew (MLS Cup 2015 opponent) and Orlando City (2020 MLS Is Back Championship opponent) are all rematches of Championship matches.
