The Portland Timbers got an early goal from midfielder Yimmi Chará, and that would be the only scoring in a 1-0 win over Minnesota United in a preseason match on a beautiful day at Providence Park.
In just the fifth minute, Santiago Moreno made a nice pass into the run of Yimmi Chará, who played a nice low shot to the lower left corner of the goal past Minnesota goalkeeper Tyler Miller, and the Timbers had the early 1-0 lead.
The only other really good scoring chance for the Timbers would come in the 53rd minute, when Moreno’s free kick found the head of Jaroslaw Niezgoda, but his nice headed shot was stopped by a well-positioned Miller.
The Timbers next face Viking FK in a preseason match at Providence Park on Wednesday, February 16.
