The Timbers did get a late first-half goal from Justin Rasmussen, but they were largely overpowered by Viking FK of Norway, who won by a 3-1 final. Kristoffer Løkberg would score twice, and David Brekalo also scored for the visitors.
Viking FK would open the scoring in the 11th minute, when forward Veton Berisha would make a low cross from the right side, that midfielder Kristoffer Løkberg would one-time past goalkeeper David Bingham for the early 1-0 lead. Bingham would make great reaction saves in the 23rd and 25th minutes to keep the score close in what was a largely one-sided game for the Norwegian side in the first half.
In the 36th minute, Viking FK would double their lead when a penalty kick by Berisha was saved by Bingham, but Løkberg would head home the rebound for the 2-0 lead.
But in first-half stoppage time, then Timbers would pull back a goal on their very first shot of the match. Josecarlos Van Rankin would make a long pass that was controlled by Justin Rasmussen, who would control the pass and blasted a shot into the far side of the goal that brought the Timbers back within a goal at 2-1 at the break.
The Timbers would go down a man when defender Pablo Bonilla was red-carded in the 55th minute. The visitors would add to their lead in the 71st minute when defender David Brekalo got his head onto a Viking FK corner kick and finished well, which put the visitors up by a 3-1 score.
The Timbers then subbed in several regular in what had largely been a trialist-heavy roster to that point, and largely controlled play for the last 20 minutes of the match, but were unable to find the back of the Viking FK net and the match would end with a 3-1 win by the visitors.
