The Portland Timbers started the 2022 season against the two teams that are odds-on favorite to win MLS Cup this year, and have earned two draws in two matches after a 1-1 road draw against Los Angeles FC. Yimmi Chará had the early goal for the Timbers with his second spectacular bicycle kick goal in two weeks, and the Timbers were down a player for much of the second half after Claudio Bravo was sent off for his second yellow card. The Timbers nearly held on for the improbable win until Mamadou Fall leveled the match in stoppage time.
