The Portland Timbers returned to play today after the international break with a game in Los Angeles against the Galaxy. Coming off a three-game losing streak, the Timbers were looking to turn their fortunes around, and got their game off to a good start with a breakaway goal by Yimmi Chará off a nice pass from Sebastián Blanco to make it 1-0 at the break.
The Galaxy would have many chances in the second half, and Timbers forward Felipa Mora would be substituted in late for his first play since last year’s MLS Cup. But the Timbers couldn’t quite hold onto their lead as Dejan Joveljic would score on a nice header in the 88th minute to level the score at 1-1, which would be the final score.
