Timbers fall to Toronto on the road by 3-1 score

The Portland Timbers ten-game unbeaten run came to an end in Toronto on Saturday night with a 3-1 loss.  Jonathan Osorio, Lorenzo Insigne, and Federico Bernardeschi all scored for the hosts, while Josecarlos Van Rankin had the lone goal for the Timbers.

Toronto would control much of the match, and were only kept from scoring a few good first half chances by quick saves from goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič.  But just before halftime the hosts would break through when Jonathan Osorio found himself open only about eight yards out from goal and had a pretty easy finish for a 1-0 lead, which would be the score at the break.

Both teams would have good chances to score as the second half progressed, but it would be the Timbers that would level the score in the 73rd minute on a fast break that found Josecarlos Van Rankin open trailing the play, and he finished well to tie the score at 1-1.

But just six minutes later the hosts retook the lead when Lorenzo Insigne did well to jump on a high bouncing ball and finished to put Toronto ahead by a 2-1 score.  And five minutes from the end of regulation time, Toronto would put the match away when Federico Bernardeschi  finished well from the top of the box for the 3-1 Toronto FC victory.
