Timbers get another thrilling 2-1 win, this time at Austin FC

After a big win last Friday, the Timbers continued with another big win on Wednesday night, another 2-1 win, this time over Austin FC.  Bill Tuiloma and Zac McGraw had the goals for the Timbers, while Sebastián Driussi had the lone goal for the home side.

The first half was wide-open from the start, with both teams getting many chances.  Austin had an early header by Ethan Finlay saved by Aljaž Ivačič  and then a later header by Alex Ring was off the crossbar,  and had a few other shots that were that were just wide.  The Timbers then came very close to taking the lead when a shot by Yimmi Chará was cleared off the line.  But  the Timbers would be the first team to break through in the 16th minute when a free kick by Eryk Williamson was headed nicely by Bill Tuiloma, and the shot bounced off the wet grass and was into the net, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead.

Both teams had more good chances but neither really seriously threatened to score, and it was 1-0 Timbers at the half.

Austin would hit the crossbar again in the 57th minute after a wild series of headers in front of the Timbers goal.

The match became more chippy with Austin have most of the possession, but surprisingly it was the Timbers who would find the goal again in the 73rd minute, when a shot by Williamson rebounded right to the foot of Zac McGraw, who tapped the ball in easily, and just like that, it was 2-0 Timbers.

Then in the 79th minute, Austin goal a goal back when a header by Sebastián Driussi off a nice flick from Felipe Martins slipped inside the right post and into the net, and the Timbers lead was reduced to 2-1.

In stoppage time Felipe seemed to have a quick chance on a rebound but put the shot over the net.

Neither team seriously threatened again, and the Timbers got their third road win over the year, 2-1 over Austin FC.

Aljaž Ivačič had four saves for the Timbers while Brad Stuver also had four saves for the hosts.
