The Portland Timbers opened up the their 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational schedule on Sunday against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Timbers played a lineup that was a mix of likely starters and reserves, and emerged with a 4-1 win.
New signing Evander opened the scoring in the 28th minute, and the Timbers held a 1-0 lead at the break.
Cristhian Paredes added a second goal early in the second half, before the Galaxy pulled a goal back in the 56th minute when Tyler Boyd scored.
But it only took until the 60th minute for the Timbers to restore their two goal lead when Juan Mosquera had a goal, and Jaroslaw Niezgoda added another goal in the 68th minute for the 4-1 win.
The next match the Timbers play in the preseason tournament will be Wednesday, February 15 when they take on Toronto FC at 2:00 pm.
