Thorns lose first NWSL match of season, 2-1 to Houston Dash

The Portland Thorns had an 11-game unbeaten league match run end in a 2-1 loss to the Houston Dash.  Rocky Rodríguez scored for the Thorns, while Joelle Anderson and Ebony Salmon would score for the Dash.

The Thorns thought they had a 12th minute lead on a goal by Crystal Dunn, but a pass during the leadup was ruled offside by VAR.

But in the 34th minute the Thorns would take the lead when Olivia Moultrie chipped a pass to Rocky Rodríguez, who finished from near the penalty spot, and the Thorns had a 1-0 lead.

Then in the 59th minute, Houston would draw level when a rebound off a save fell to an wide-open Joelle Anderson, who finished easily into an open net, and the score was now 1-1.

And Houston would take the lead in the 71st minute when Ebony Salmon would beat her defender before making a run alone towards the Timbers goal, and then scored with a nice shot from the top of the box for the home side to take a 2-1 lead.

The Thorns would have yet another goal nullified after another VAR review of a tight offside call, and the Houston Dash would emerge with a 2-1 win.
