Franck Boli goal holds up in 1-0 Timbers victory over FC Dallas

The Timbers would get a first-half goal from Franck Boli, and that would end up standing up in a wild match vs. FC Dallas on Sunday night at Providence Park, which ended in a 1-0 Timbers victory.

In just the second minute, the Timbers thought they had been awarded a penalty kick on a foul on Juan David Mosquera, but replays showed (correctly) that Mosquera had actually stepped on the defender’s foot, and the penalty was waved off.

After getting several good chances that did not come to fruition, the Timbers finally broke the scoreless tie in the 35th minute, when Evander chipped a pass into the Dallas box that was run unto and headed nicely by Franck Boli, which Dallas keeper Maarten Paes couldn’t quite keep out of the net, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead, which would be the score at the half.

The Timbers had a few good breakaway chances early in the second half, but none resulted in a shot on goal.     In the 60th minute Santiago Moreno had a golden opportunity when the ball fell at his feet just front of goal on yet another breakaway, but his chance was blocked.

It appeared the Timbers were going to go up a man in the 70th minute when Geovane Jesus  was shown a red, apparently for stepping on the leg of Diego Chará, but this was also overruled by VAR.

Dallas had perhaps their best chance on a header off a free kick late in stoppage time that was saved by David Bingham, and a Dallas striker badly misplayed the rebound.  And the Timbers broke their winless streak with a 1-0 victory.
