Timbers fall short in 2-1 loss to Chicago Fire

The Portland Timbers allowed a late goal which would be the difference in a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Fire.  Franck Boli would score for the home side, while Fabian Herbers and Kei Kamara scored for the Fire.

Chicago would open the scoring in the 8th minute when Gastón Giménez chipped a pass into Brian Gutiérrez, who played a nice pass to a wide-open Fabian Herbers, who finished easily, and the Fire had an early 1-0 lead.

In the 12th minute Evander had a great chance to tie the score, but his shot was tapped just wide by Chicago goalkeeper Chris Brady.

Then in the 26th minute, the Timbers would tie it up, when Santiago Moreno played a nice ball into the run of Franck Boli as he entered the Chicago box, and his low shot beat Brady, and the score was tied at 1-1.

In the 30th minute, Jairo Torres would have a breakaway chance for the visitors, but was denied by a good positional save by David Bingham.  The score was level at 1-1 at the break.

Both teams would have good opportunities as the second half progressed, but neither team really put a threatening shot on goal until Chicago made their chance pay off in the 83rd minute when Kei Kamara got into a better position for a header than defender Claudio Bravo off a pass from Gutiérrez, and headed home from short range, and the Fire had a 2-1 lead.

In the 88th minute the Timbers thought would go up a player when a red card was shown, but for the second week in a row, a red card on an opponent was rescinded after a VAR review.

The Timbers had a late good chance by Marvin Loria and Nathan Fagaca, but never found the net again, and ended up on the short end of a 2-1 score.
