A rematch of the 2021 MLS Cup ended in regulation with the same score, a 1-1 final (no overtime during the regular season of course). Evander had the goal for the Timbers, while Keaton Parks would score for New York City FC.
Evander had a great chance blocked in the 11th minute, but neither team really threatened until the 38th minute, when a series of Timbers passes across the box ended up on the foot of Marvin Loría, who tapped a pass back to Evander, whose blast from the top of the box beat goalkeeper Matt Freese, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead. A minute or so later the Timbers had another great chance when Santiago Moreno played a pass to Franck Boli as he charged into the box, but Freese made a nice save. The Timbers would hold their 1-0 lead at the break.
Boli had a great tight-angle shot saved just seconds into the second half.
In the 52nd minute, New York City FC would tie it up off a free kick from Matías Pellegrini, that was headed home by Keaton Parks, who had risen above the Timbers defense, and the score was level at 1-1. In the next few minutes, Portland goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič made a few good saves to keep the game level.
In the 85th minute, Moreno had the ball fall nicely right near the penalty spot, but his shot was wide left.
Neither team would threaten again, and the score would end up level at 1-1.
Deep in stoppage time, Juan David Mosquera had a great chance from outside the box tipped just wide by Freese.
Evander had a free kick chance on the last kick of the match nip just off the right post and going wide. The final was a 1-1 draw.
