The Thorns were missing many key players on the night (as were the OL Reign), but the Thorns never found their form and rarely threatened in a 1-0 loss to the Reign. Elyse Bennett had the lone goal of the match.
The first half didn’t have much action for either team, but a few minutes before halftime, the OL Reign thought they had taken the lead, but the goal was ruled offside.
In the 55th minute, the Reign finally broke the scoreless drought when Alyssa Malonson sent a cross in to Elyse Bennett, who had slipped in behind the Thorns defense, and she headed home from only a few yards out, and the Reign led by a 1-0 score.
The Thorns had a few good chances, including a nice header chance just into stoppage time, but never found the net, and would fall by a 1-0 score.
