Timbers break skid with 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake

The Timbers would earn their first victory in awhile, as two goals would hold up in a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake.  Santiago Moreno and Felipe Mora would score for the Timbers, while Cristian Arango would  have the goal for the visitors.

It took until the 13th minute for either team to have a good scoring chance, and the Timbers took advantage of it when Evander played a crossing pass to Juan David Mosquera, who made a high return cross across the goal mouth which found Santiago Moreno charging in unmarked, and he would head home from about eight yards out, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead. Both teams would have decent scoring chances in the rest of the first half, but neither team threatened seriously, and the half would end with the Timbers up by a 1-0 score.

Early in the second half, Real Salt Lake were getting much more of the possession, and had a few really good chances only kept out by nice saves by Timbers goalkeeper David Bingham, including one that rebounded off the left post.

In the 64th minute, the Timbers made their first good chance of the second half pay off as well, when a long pass from Claudio Bravo was knocked down by Moreno, who then tapped a pass to a charging Felipe Mora, who finished with a one-timer just under the crossbar past Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Zac MacMath, and the Timbers lead was now 2-0.

In the 83rd minute, after several decent scoring chances, the visitors would get a nice redirection by Cristian Arango in front of the Timbers net past BIngham, and the Timbers lead was now 2-1.  Real Salt Lake would have some late chances, but never found the net again, and the Timbers would secure the 2-1 win.
