Thorns can’t make halftime lead hold up, fall 2-1 to Racing Louisville

Racing Louisville would rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Thorns by a 2-1 score.  Morgan Weaver had the lone goal for the Thorns, while Abby Erceg and Thembi Kgatlana scored for Louisville.

The hosts would have a great scoring chance early, including hitting the crossbar in the 5th minute.  But a minute or so later, a lazy back pass by a Louisville defender was jumped on my Morgan Weaver, who would finish into an open net to give the Thorns a 1-0 lead.  In first half stoppage time the hosts had a great chance with a loose ball just a few feet from the Thorns goalline, but nobody could knock it home.  The Thorns held a 1-0 lead at the break.

But in the 60th minute, Louisville finally tied it upon effectively an own goal, when Abby Erceg headed towards goal off a corner kick, and Hina Sugita‘s attempt to clear with her head instead redirected it past Bella Bixby, and the score was now 1-1.  A few minutes later, after a breakaway attempt by Ary Borges was saved by Bixby, Thembi Kgatlana had a chance from the top of the box that she would curl just inside the left post, and Louisville had turned a deficit into a 2-1 lead in just a few minutes.  The Thorns never found the equalizer and Louisville would get the comeback 2-1 win.
