Timbers draw Houston Dynamo by 2-2 score

The defensive struggles of the 2024 Timbers continued on Saturday night at Providence Park, resulting in a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dyanmo.  Felipe Mora and Nathan Fogaça had the goals for the Timbers, while Sebastian Kowalczyk and Adalberto Carrasquilla would score for the visitors.

In just the ninth minute, the Timbers fell behind on a Houston corner kick, the ball rebounded to the foot of Sebastian Kowalczyk, who lunged at the ball and finished past Timbers goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, and the Dynamo had a 1-0 lead.

In the 37th minute, the Timbers would tie it up, when Jonathan Rodríguez made a nice run down the left side, and when Houston goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell came off his line, Rodríguez dropped a nice pass to Felipe Mora, who finished easily, and the score was now 1-1.  The Timbers had a few more good chances later in the half but didn’t find the net again, and the score would be 1-1 at the break.

In the 50th minute the visitors would re-take the lead, when Héctor Herrera slipped a soft pass into the run of Adalberto Carrasquilla, who got in behind the Timbers defense, and finished with a low shot past Crépeau, and the Dynamo led 2-1 now.

Rodríguez had a great chance on a header in the 74th minute, but put it just wide left.  But in the 74th minute the Timbers would tie it again, when Evander played a nice free kick into the path of Nathan Fogaça, who had just entered the match, and he headed home well to make the score 2-2.  In the 84th minute it appeared Houston had once again take the lead, but the goal was ruled offside after a quick VAR review.

In the 89th minute, Evander had a chance from 25 yards out on a breakaway, but his blast was off the crossbar.  Shortly afterwards, off a corner kick, Fogaça would hit the woodwork again with a header attempt.

What turned out to be a very chippy match by both teams ended up in a 2-2 draw.
