The Portland Timbers visited St. Louis City on Saturday night. Neither team could find the net and in the end, it was a 0-0 draw.
In just the third minute the Timbers had a good chance when Antony led a break with Jonathan Rodríguez, but the pass was a bit behind and Rodríguez ended up having his shot saved nicely by Roman Bürki. In the 17th minute, the hosts would have a great breakaway chance on a nice lead pass into the run of Hosei Kijima, but Timbers goalkeeper James Pantemis did a nice job of charging out of his box and clearing the threat at the last second. Shortly afterwards Portland’s Evander had a nice shot from the top of the box tipped just wide by a nice save from Bürki.
In the 35th minute, St. Louis forward João Klauss slipped past Pantemis but couldn’t get a hard shot on goal, and the ball was cleared by Zak McGraw before it could cross the goal line. Late in the half, Célio Pompeu had a nice shot that Pantemis was shielded from at first, but made a nice reaction save to keep it out. The match would be scoreless at the break.
In the 74th minute, the hosts came very close to taking the lead, when a free kick by Eduard Löwen from just outside the box was off the left crossbar, and rebounded directly to Tim Parkerk, who had a follow-up chance into a seemingly empty net, but Timbers defender Claudio Bravo had great position and blocked the shot from crossing the line. Neither team would threaten again and the match would end up scoreless.
