The Portland Timbers seemed to finally find some solutions for their recent defensive issues, with a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps. Jonathan Rodríguez and Felipe Mora had goals for the Timbers.
In the 26th minute the Timbers took advantage of the first good scoring chance, when Evander found Jonathan Rodríguez in the box, and the Timbers striker finished with a low shot past Yohei Takaoka, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead. In the 43rd minute, Felipe Mora had a good chance with a header only a few yards from the Whitecaps goal, but his chance was saved.
But a few minute later, Santiago Moreno made a nice pass after a Vancouver turnover into the run of Mora, who made a nice turn near the top of the Whitecaps box and fired nicely inside the post, and the Timbers lead was now 2-0, which would be the score at the break.
Things got much more difficult for the Whitecaps in the 52nd minute, when Alessandro Schöpf, who was already on a yellow, grabbed onto Moreno with both hands and though the call was a bit harsh, that was a second yellow card and he was sent off.
The Timbers would have half-decent chances from Moreno and from Eryk Williamson, but never threatened to score again, and held on for the 2-0 win. James Pantemis had the shutout in goal and was never seriously tested.
