The Timbers needed a good follow up to their win over Club León last weekend, and they truly delivered with a 4-0 win over the Colorado Rapids to advance to the next round of the Leagues Cup. Antony, David Ayala, Mason Toye, and Santiago Moreno scoring for the Timbers.
Just a few minutes into the match, Maxime Crépeau would make two good saves for the Timbers, first when Jonathan Lewis played a pass into the box that Omir Fernandez would get on the end of from close in that the Timbers keeper got a hand to, and shortly afterwards, a nice Rapids ball into the Timbers box was redirected by Rafael Navarro but Crépeau made another really nice save. Felipe Mora would have equally good chance for the Timbers in the 8th minute, but his chance was deflected wide by a Colorado defender.
Then in the 30th minute, the Timbers would be on the board when a ball into the box by Juan David Mosquera was headed down by Mora, and Antony one-timed a shot that snuck through the legs of Colorado goalkeeper Zack Steffen, and Timbers had a 1-0 lead. The Timbers would hold that lead into the break.
In the 52nd minute the Timbers would score again, once again on an Evander corner kick (like last match). The kick was deflected towards the far post by Cristhian Paredes, and then headed home by David Ayala, scoring his first goal for the Timbers, which gave the Timbers a 2-0 lead.
And then in the 69th minute, the Timbers were on the board again, when new acquisition Mason Toye stayed just onside as he got a pass from Mosquera, and finished nicely into the upper right corner of the net, also netting his first goal as a Timber, and the Timbers had stretched the lead to 3-0.
Just two minutes later, the Timbers added a fourth goal on a breakaway where the Timbers had a 4 on 3 break, with Santiago Moreno finishing nicely to stretch the lead out to 4-0. This would be the final as the Timbers would advance in the Leagues Cup, and also earn their second four goal win over the Rapids this year.
