The Portland Timbers played a sloppy match against the Seattle Sounders, with both teams struggling to put a good shot on goal, but the Timbers got the break of a deflected shot for the only goal in a 1-0 win. Juan David Mosquera would tally the only goal for the Timbers.
In just the fifth minute, the Timbers had a great chance when Antony made a deep run into the box, with his low cross being deflected by goalkeeper Stefan Frei into the run of Mason Toye, who deflected it towards net but was saved, but then took a knee from Toye in the head and had to leave the game. Seattle thought they had a go-ahead goal in the 19th minute but it was ruled offside. The rest of the first half was pretty sloppy with both teams only having half-chances to score, and unsurprisingly, it was 0-0 at the break.
In the 55th minute, the Timbers would be on the scoreboard first when Juan David Mosquera made a run towards the box and though his shot from 25 yards was very ambitious, it deflected immediately off the foot of Nouhou and past goalkeeper Andrew Thomas, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead.
In the 69th minute Seattle had a great chance when the ball ricocheted to the feet of Jordan Morris, but Toye made a great clear just as the shot was going to be taken. The game started to heat up with Evander making a great free chance seconds later but the ball was tipped over the bar by Thomas.
The Timbers held on as Seattle didn’t seriously threaten for the remainder of the match for a 1-0 win.
