Timbers get goals from their “big three” in a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy

The Portland Timbers hosted the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday night at Providence Park, and got goals from their three frequent scorers in a 4-2 win over the Galaxy.  Evander had two goals while Jonathan Rodríguez and Felipe Mora also scored.  Gabriel Pec and Joseph Paintsil would score for the visitors.

The Timbers would take the lead in the 18th minute when Evander sent a nice ball into the box that was finished by a nice header by Jonathan Rodríguez to give the Timbers an early 1-0 lead.

In the 37th minute, a nice cross from Juan David Mosquera was narrowly missed by a sliding attempt by Evander.  But only a minute or so later, Evander made good on his chance when he got a pass at the top of the box from Santiago Moreno, and finished nicely inside the right post to make the lead 2-0.

But late in first half stoppage time, the Galaxy would pull back a goal when Gabriel Pec made a nice run into the box and finished with a nice high shot past Maxime Crépeau to make the score 2-1 Timbers at the break.

In the 51st minute the Timbers would take their lead back out to two goal, when after Rodríguez went down in the box, while the defenders contemplated whether a penalty would be called or not, Evander jumped on the loose ball and finished past John McCarthy, and the Timbers lead was 3-1.

But in the 59th minute, the Galaxy pulled within a goal again when Joseph Paintsil knocked home a rebound that came off the post, and after a VAR review as the original goal had been called offside, the goal was (correctly) awarded and the score was 3-2 Timbers.

In the 77th minute, Crépeau made a really nice save on a shot by Pec that was deflected on its way to the goal.

In the 79th minute, the Timbers would expand their lead back up to two goals again when Antony (who had just entered the match seconds before) sent a cross from the left side that was chested down by Felipe Mora, who then finished with a nice high short-side shot, and the Timbers lead was 4-2.  The Timbers would hold onto that lead which was the final score.
